چکیده

[1] Impacts of atmospheric intraseasonal oscillations (ISOs) at submonthly periods (10–30 days) on Indian Ocean sea surface temperature (SST) are studied using satellite observed outgoing long wave radiation, QuikSCAT winds, SST and an ocean general circulation model for the period of 1999–2004. The results suggest that submonthly ISOs can cause significant 10–30 day SST changes throughout the equatorial basin and northern Bay of Bengal, with an amplitude of as large as 0.5 C and standard deviation of exceeding 0.2 C for a 4-year record. Impact of the submonthly ISO associated with the Indian summer monsoon is separately examined. It is associated with basin-scale SST evolution with distinct spatial structures. The SST variation results mainly from submonthly wind forcing, which causes changes in oceanic processes and surface turbulent heat fluxes. Radiative fluxes can also have large influences in some regions for some ISO events. Citation: Han, W., W. T. Liu, and J. Summer precipitation determinant factors of Iran's South-East

Indian Ocean is known as a source of moisture for southeast of Iran due to summer precipitation. In this study, in order to investigate the role of SST of Indian Ocean, and the convergence and divergence fields in the precipitation of southeast of Iran, precipitation data of five synoptic stations were used during 2000-2010, including Iranshahr, Khash, ChahBahar, Zabul, and Saravan. To investig...

بررسی روابط شاخص نوسان جنوبی و دمای سطح آب اقیانوس‌های آرام و هند با بارش فصلی و ماهانه ایران

Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) patterns affect rainfall in many parts of the world. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between monthly and seasonal rainfall of Iran versus SOI and Pacific and Indian sea surface temperature. Monthly rainfall data, from 50 synoptic stations with at least 30 years of records up to the end of 2007, were used. Monthl...

The impact of decadal-scale Indian Ocean sea surface temperature anomalies on Sahelian rainfall and the North Atlantic Oscillation

[1] The sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of the tropical Indian Ocean show a pronounced warming since the 1950s. We have analyzed the impact of this warming on Sahelian rainfall and on the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) by conducting ensemble experiments with an atmospheric general circulation model. Additionally, we investigate the impact of the other two tropical oceans on these two climate ...

Impact of Indian Ocean Sea Surface Temperature on Developing

Prior to the 1976–77 climate shift (1950–76), sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the tropical Indian Ocean consisted of a basinwide warming during boreal fall of the developing phase of most El Niños, whereas after the shift (1977–99) they had an east–west asymmetry—a consequence of El Niño being associated with the Indian Ocean Dipole/Zonal mode. In this study, the possible impact of t...

Broadening the Atmospheric Bridge Paradigm: ENSO Teleconnections to the Tropical West Pacific-Indian Oceans Over the Seasonal Cycle and to the North Pacific in Summer

During El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events, atmospheric teleconnections associated with sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the equatorial Pacific can influence the ocean thousands of kilometers away. We use several data sets to delineate this “atmospheric bridge” between ocean basins, focusing on two emerging research areas: 1) the evolution of atmosphere-ocean interactions in th...
